Location: Sydney CBD, NSW
Client: InterfaceFLOR
Completion Date: August 2008
The InterfaceFLOR Head Office tenancy is located within a heritage listed building at 101 Chalmers Street, Surry Hills, backing directly on to Central Station. The integrated base building and fitout works was undertaken to enhance the buildings environmental performance and also to provide a healthy work environment for InterfaceFLOR staff.
The fitout works were designed to have minimal impact on the heritage listed base building, allowing for ongoing adaption of the space as the tenant needs change, and also easy disassembly at the end of the tenancy lease. The built areas within the fitout were designed by the architect, Rice Daubney, to not touch the existing heritage listed walls or ceiling, thus minimising impacts to the heritage listed base building.
The InterfaceFLOR fitout design strategy included a key focus on material selection, particularly for fabrics and flooring. The fitout used minimal floor finishes, keeping much of the tenancy fitout space as the existing timber floorboards, and where InterfaceFLOR modular carpet tiles were installed these were laid using the glue-less and low VOC TacTiles method. This allow the tiles to be removed, rearranged or changed as required with minimal impact on the timber flooring beneath.
A 5 Star Green Star Office Interiors v1.1 rating was awarded to the project in August 2010.
Viridis E3 were contracted to provide Green Star guidance to the design and construction team, review the documentation and prepare the Green Star submissions. Viridis E3 (formerly Sustainable FX) were the Green Star Accredited Professional for the duration of the project.
